How come you joined DW?
I had recently relocated from Australia to Hong Kong. I met a previous DW colleague who connected me with the HR Manager at the time. Some time passed and when an opportunity appeared, they shared their positive experiences around the people, culture, and the brand. To me it was just an instant ‘I want to be part of the company’. I applied and was able to meet with several people from APAC and globally during the recruitment process and when the offer came I was super happy to join the company. I think it was on a Friday, it was amazing!
Didn't you meet that colleague in an elevator?
Haha yes, we met in the apartment building elevator in Hong Kong. We exchanged numbers one time and later when we caught up we naturally talked about work. It brings back so many fond memories.
What have you worked with at DW?
There has always been a focus on HR, P&C, and everyday business support. Ad-hoc projects and be available to solve challenges whenever possible. My focus has been regionally for our APAC organization and globally for the rest of the organization. The role has changed over the years in a changing organization that has required a lot of adaptation and dynamic ways of working. It has kept the role energetic and exciting.
Today I’m working in the Global P&C team with a focus on day-to-day work, operations, and supporting the organization. For 2024 we have a roadmap with various projects that I’m a part of leading and contributing to, with the end-goal to build an organisation where people can be their best selves.
How do you stay connected working with global teams?
I think it’s very much about regular and constant communication. We are fortunate to have a very positive communication culture and way of working. So I think it’s very natural for people to collaborate and communicate regularly. Just because you are not in the same office as a person, you don’t feel that really since we have the collaboration. Which I once again love about the company. It's also very natural for people to start the meetings with a social catching up.
What's the best thing about working in the People & Culture team at Daniel Wellington?
The people, the team, the culture. Just the company. I think it has such a great energy and feeling. So it’s like joyful to come to work every day. Which I think is a really lucky thing to achieve and have, it’s not the case for everyone’s work.
What's your favorite period/moment/happening working here?
My first day that kicked off the 5-year journey! It was so welcoming and positive. I had a really great onboarding schedule and we deep-dived into the company, values, culture, meeting the teams and colleagues across Asia and globally. It quickly felt warm and like I had been in the company for a long time.
What does the future hold for Daniel Wellington and you?
I’m very excited about the business strategy going forward; where we are today and where we will be going forward. From a team perspective, executing the roadmap and continuing to build on that, and to also develop the P&C function excites me. The first 5 years were so amazing so I’m like ‘What will the next 5 hold’?
If someone wants to work in the P&C team here, what would you recommend to them?
Well first of I would highly recommend applying if there is an opening! A role in P&C in DW will give you access to a broad scope, so much that you can be a part of, and lead various activities across the whole HR scope. As a P&C team we are very passionate about what we do, about people, about the business. Anyone who is looking for a role where they get to do that every day – this is the place to be. And you get to work with us of course, how amazing is that?
Thank you for reading. Find more information about P&C on our department page.
